ABOUT US -  Ellacappella was founded in 2003 by a small group of women friends from the Blue Hill Peninsula area who enjoyed a cappella singing and wanted to share their fun by performing at local events.  Since its founding, Ellacappella's repertoire has grown from simple show tunes, and seasonal carols, to a mix of classical, Broadway, and more modern arrangements by Deke Sharon, Sue Jaques, Joanna Forbes, Ward Swingle (of Swingle Singer fame), Jameson Marvin, and others. We have performed at the Boothbay Opera House, the Criterion Theater in Bar Harbor, The Grand Auditorium’s Summers Eve series, singing on the waterfront, and as part of the Blue Hill Peninsula's "Last Night" celebration.  This year we add Birch Bay Village of Bar Harbor to our list of venues (see the August Calendar for details.)

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING - In May, Ellacappella hosted an a cappella "sing-fest" fundraiser for the benefit of the Camden Opera House. Six groups gathered to celebrate and perform a wonderfully ecclectic array of vocal music ranging from Rennaissance to pop before an enthusiastic audience of approximately 225.  The success of this event makes us think we would like to repeat it next year, perhaps in Blue Hill!!

WHAT'S ON THE PROGRAM -  This summer's featured tunes include "Girl From  Impanima," arranged by Deke Sharon; "William Tell Overture", arranged by Julie Eschliman; "How About You" arranged by the Blue Hill Peninsula's Allen Clayton; "Rum and Coca Cola", and "Desperado", both arranged for Ellacappella by member Janet Sympson and by our music director, Joyce Newkirk, respectively.
We spend an absurd amount of time singing and chatting.  Each day begins with a stretch, a wing flap, and perhaps an attempt at flight.  The remainder of the day consists of gab, chat, gossip, singing, and blather.  If we are not singing, or drinking tea we are eating. We have no idea what we are trying to tell one another, and we are even less certain we are actually listening to each other, but we do know that we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves.  (Thanks to Pete and Gerry's Eggs for the above)
